In some parts of the expressway, the snow has been as deep as about 50 centimeters. Traffic controls have been imposed in the Yaxi Expressway because of the continual snow. [Photo/VCG]

Launched in 2007, the Yaxi Expressway project became operable in 2012 and cost $3.3 billion. Made up of 270 viaducts and 25 tunnels, it runs through Ya'an to Xicang, Sichuan province, providing better access for Sichuan to North and South China. With a scenic drive, it also serves as a major tourist attraction.
