Learn Chinese Character--对

gǔ tǐ “ duì ” zì xiàng yì zhī shǒu ná zhe zhú tái , zhú tái shàng shì diǎn rán de là zhú ,
古体“对”字像一只手拿着烛台,烛台上是点燃的蜡烛,
biǎo shì liǎng gè wù tǐ “ xiāng xiàng ” de yì si 。
表示两个物体“相向”的意思。
The ancient script of the Chinese character "对" was like a hand holding a candleholder. The candles on the candleholder symbolized "two things facing each other".

bǎ liǎng gè dōng xi fàng zài yì qǐ hù xiāng bǐ jiào , kàn shì fǒu xiāng fú hé
把两个东西放在一起互相比较, 看是否相符合
e.g.
对笔迹 [duì bǐ jì]: identify the handwriting;
对号码 [duì hào mǎ]: check numbers
